Jurassic Park!
Today we watched a movie at LT 3 - Jurassic Park!
It was really interesting, suspenseful, and some parts were even scary and funny. Here's a brief synopsis of it: Scientists created cloned dinosaurs on an island for an amusement park. Some other dinosaur experts are invited there by the CEO. The dinosaurs are set on the loose by sabotage, and the people on the island have to attempt to escape the island.
Anyway, we didn't just watch it for entertainment. We watched it for educational purposes! =) So, we learnt about CHANGE from this movie. For example, "It is better to control change than to be controlled by change." When the scientists created dinosaurs, they underestimated the change caused by what they did, and continued cloning more and more dinosaurs, until the dinosaurs finally caused serious problems. They did not control change, and change eventually controlled them.
On another note, the people who went for MM have arrived in Singapore! Welcome back guys! =) Wish everyone happy March Holidays, and best of luck for all those CCAs which have their seasons now! GO RAFFLES!!

TO end off and the poor poor animals
er.. first thing first

kk, now for the real one.
on the first day we went to the organic and the hydroponic farm.
we were there and we learnt many things like the GM food threats and some more stuff
then we went to the hydroponic farm and looked at the plants
the second day i didnt go because i was sick (i never pawn hor..got mc leh).
the third day we went to the zoo but got no ah meng
the fourth day we went stayed in school and heard the animal tok. the animals there were quite pitiful. they were abused by some ppl and smuggled into singapore. this was the worse part: due to the air pressure and stuff, the animals died in the luggage. so we were very sad.
today is the last day, and we are blogging..

It was a unique experience when I attempted to create my own blog along with my CCA peers yesterday. Because I did not have a blog in the first place, I was clueless initially. It was only later on after Mr Dean Ang taught us how to do so, then I began to grasp the concept. Being it my first time creating a blog, I and some of my friends worked together to start a blog : mmo8squash.blogspot.com. Day At The Zoo
Hello guys, Felix here. I will now be sharing my in-depth learning experiences on the third day, where we went to the Singapore Zoological Gardens. Well, as usual, we had to report at the raffles square for morning assembly. Then, we had a long recess and finally assembled at the SR block foyer to board the bus. We reached the zoo at about 9.45. We were some worksheets and were allowed to roam the zoo freely until 10.30. In my group, we went to see the primates. They swung from trees to trees with their elongated arms, gracefully, and changrui had a hard time taken pictures. xD I have learnt that other species of primates are being illegally poached and sold to Singapore as pets or as experiment specimens. In surveys, Singapore is being rated to be number 1 in Southeast Asia for the illegal trading of endangered species, which includes primates. Next, white tiger. Lol, here comes the funny part - I think the tiger is being trained to do this routine. In this enclosure, there were three tigers. however, two of the tigers were lazing around and one of them, was walking up and down the same path to show his majestic aura maybe? I stayed there for 10 mins and the tiger kept the same routine going 00. Anyway, later on we went to see the pigmy hippos, the kangaroos. Did you know that kangroos can leap 13m in one bound? HOLY COW thats far. Even my squash friend who was uber light can only jump 3m. (Normal people would be able to jump farther.) -.-l. It was 1020 when we saw finished admiring the world most venemous land snake and we had to detour. Partially because i needed to go to the toilet. =D. We went on the behind the scenes tour, when some of us went to visit the animal care and research center while the others went to the central kitchen. We got to see the operating room, the animal wards 0.0. Lastly, we got to see the post mortem room. did you know how they did post mortem on the elephants? they would use a chain with hooks and hook the elephants up. then, the vets would stand onto an elevated platform and conduct the... . To think that we stood on the drain which drained all the blood that would ooze out of the elephant when they conduct the post mortem. Sick. Oh yah and a full grown elephant weighed 3000kg = 3 tonnes. 50 of us on the weighing machine only weighed 2350kg. Lol.
What Ive learnt :
1) Change is essential for survival.
In order to prevent animals from dying, the veternarians are coming up with new cures and anti-biotics. In this research center, they are treating animals and investigating new cures. So yah, change is essential for survival.

Second day reflections
Hi guys,
How are you'll doing? On the second day, we went to the national museum. We visited the Greek masterpieces. We took down the features of the the civilisations and the
supporting details. We compared the similiarities and differences of the greeks and the modern times.

We have electricity now after years of advancements. Change is also essential for survival. It allows Singapore to depend on themselves and not depend on other countries.

For the snapshot, we gain many wonderful insights to change which taught us more about the important macroconcepts which encompasses our learning which is of paramount importance as it teaches us to take smart, intelligent, careful and cerebral approaches towards the things that we learn as it helps us in out future to become thinking individuals who would be the pillars of Singapore and helps us think smartly, intelligently, carefully and cerebrally as change is paramountly important in our world since change surrounds us everywhere and change is paramountly important since it helps us take smart, intelligent, careful and cerebral approaches to our learning and change is paramountly important because it is paramountly important, this is why it is paramountly important to study change as we have studied it in the SS since it helps us in our smart, intelligent, careful and cerebral learning and teachers us more about change in the world which is paramountly important in our smart, intelligent, careful and cerebral learning. :)

Hello!
Hello guys. This is Chang Rui here, one of the Sec 2 squashers. Due to unfortunate circumstances, we can't go for the Malaysian Montage and we're stuck in Singapore. But while all of you are in Malaysia, we're also going through a Special Programme conducted in Singapore - Singapore Snapshots!
We visited places like farms, the National Museum and the Zoo, to learn about the Macro-concept of CHANGE.
For the first day, we visited Green Circle Organic Farm located at 41 Neo Tiew Road. It is an organic farm, which means that it only uses natural methods of farming (it does not use any pesticides) and is environmentally friendly. There, a lady who was the owner of the farm gave us a detailed talk about how the Earth was being harmed by inconsiderate farming practices and told us about the benefits of organic farming. She felt very strongly about conserving the environment, and constantly highlighted to us the dangers of unnatural farming practices. We then had a tour around her farm. Because the farm did not use any pesticides, we noticed that some of the crops had been damaged by insects and were not aesthetically pleasing. However, the farm owner told us that the crops were fit for consumption, as the insects only damaged the surfaces of the crops. During the tour, we learnt about many crops which we were previously unfamiliar with.
After the tour, we boarded the bus and went off to Oh Chin Huat Hydroponics Farm, a farm which used hydroponics technology (planting crops in a soiless medium, such as nutrient solution) to assist its farming. When we reached the farm we noticed how modern it looked compared to Green Circle Organic Farm. We had a tour around the farm, which helped us understand the concepts and process of hydroponics and why it was an effective farming method. At this farm, the crops were more aesthetically pleasing, as they were kept in greenhouses, away from pests. The crops were also of uniform height and quality. We were allowed to examine exotic plants like lavender, which were normally grown in temperate climates but could be grown here with the help of technology. We were also given free tea brewed from the "Seven Leaf Plant" and were lent peppermint bottles to sniff. After that, many Sec 2s bought ornamental plants and peppermint bottles from the shop at the farm.
Through our farm trip, we learnt more about change. "Change leads to progress." At the hydroponics farm, we saw that their crops were of a better quality compared to the organic farm. Many temperate crops were grown at the hydroponics farm with the help of modern technology. This showed that a change in farming methods could allow farmers to achieve more, and thus showed that change leads to progress.
On the second day, we had PT in the morning conducted by the hockers. After that, we visited the National Museum of Singapore. When we entered the museum, we were very impressed by its beautiful architecture and were amazed by the swinging chandeliers. Soon after, we visited the "Greek Masterpieces From The Louvre" gallery. There, we saw sculptures, figurines, reliefs, vases and jewellery which had been borrowed from the Louvre. In spite of feeling disturbed by the nude statues around us, we gained more knowledge about Greek civilisation at its political and artistic height in the Classical period. After that, we embarked on a tour in the Singapore History Gallery. Each of us received a PDA-like machine which could guide us through the gallery by giving us information about different exhibits. In this enjoyable tour, we walked through bridges and walkways, entered many rooms and watched shows on big screens. The interactive nature of this tour was very appealing to us, and we gained a deeper insight to Singapore's history.
On the third day, we visited the Singapore Zoo! I think that many of us were looking forward to this. At the zoo, we were given free time to explore on our own. We saw cute and interesting animals like monkeys, hippos, tigers, kangaroos and many others. After that, we assembled and went for the Behind The Scenes tour. Some of us went to the Wildlife Healthcare & Research Centre, while others visited the Central Kitchen. At the healthcare and research centre, we learnt about how the zoo treated ill or injured animals. At the post-mortem section, we also learnt about how the zoo dealt with incidents of animals dying. We saw items like sledgehammers, axes and all sorts of large knives that looked like they came out of a torture chamber, and felt rather uneased by that. We also saw disgusting tapeworms, ringworms, roundworms and other parasites which could cause death in animals. According to the students who visited the Central Kitchen, they saw things in the freezer that..the zoo may not want the public to know. Quite shocking. However, we had a lot of fun at the zoo! =)
Something we learnt about change: "Change is essential for survival." Some animals in the zoo are weak and endangered, but they can live healthily with the zoo's care. If they are left in their wild habitat, they might have died. A change in their environment has allowed them to survive. Thus change can be essential for survival.
Those were all the external activities we had! So we're doing school based activities like blogging and games now. We hope that all of you in Malaysia are having a good time, and we really wish that we could be there but we can't (see how lucky you guys are??). We'll be putting up some photos we took soon and we hope that all of you will enjoy looking through them. That's all from the squash team, and bye!
